- Local school districts
Working in a public school system is a
great way to change the future. As with any public
school system, there are ample opportunities to help
mold the future through educating children. Teaching
in the public school system is one way to take your
experiences "to the street" and make a difference for
the improvement of everyone's lives.
- Private schools
Working in a private school setting is
quite different from the public system. For the most
part working in this environment seems to be free of
state restrictions/red tape and "teaching to the
test".

Careers outside education
The links above are websites that provide avenues for
English Majors that would like to pursue careers in
editing, copywriting, publishing, and free lance
writing. These types of writing positions require a
thorough knowledge of grammar, syntax, and other
technical writing devices.
Other avenues for English Majors to explore in the
corporate world include:
- Corporate Communication Specialist. This position
would require writing press releases, speeches, and
the like in a corporate business world.
- Policy and Procedure Analyst. This position would
require that the employee revise, edit and produce
company manuals that deal with specific company
policies and procedures.
- Energy Researcher. This position would have the
incumbent researching oil & gas or other such energy,
like "green energy", for companies that require
detailed reports of various energy related resources.
